Union Territories of India
India, a confederation of nations, is a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic governed by a Parliamentary structure. In India, a union territory is a form of administrative division that is directly governed by the Union government (Central Government). it is known as "union territory."
India's Union Territories
In India, there are eight Union territories.
1. Andaman and Nicobar Islands

- Port Blair is the capital.
- Hindi, Nicobarese, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu are some of the languages spoken.
- The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Union Territory is located between 6° and 14° north latitude and 92° and 94° east longitude. The Andaman Group of islands are situated north of 10 degrees north latitude.
- The islands' climate can be defined as a humid, tropical coastal climate. The islands get rain from both the southwest and northeast monsoons, with the wettest months being May and December.
- The original inhabitants of the islands hunted and fished in the forests. In the Andaman group of islands, there are four Negrito tribes: the Great Andamanese, Onge, Jarawa, and Sentinelese; in the Nicobar group of islands, there are two Mongoloid tribes: Nicobarese and Shompens.
2. Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu

- Gujarati and Hindi are two languages spoken in Gujarat.
- Daman and Diu were recently combined into Dadar and Nagar Haweli, resulting in a single Union Territory, Dadar and Nagar Haweli. From 1954 to 1961, the territory was governed by the "Free Dadra and Nagar Haveli Administration," which operated almost independently. The territory, however, was united with the Indian Territory.
3. Chandigarh

- Chandigarh is a city in Punjab, India.
- Hindi, Punjabi, and English are the main languages spoken.
- Chandigarh is a completely developed city with stunning modern architecture. The city is known as the "City Beautiful" because of its picturesque setting in the Shivalik hills' foothills. The city was designed by the French architect Le Corbusier and is an example of modern architecture and urban planning.
- On November 1, 1966, Chandigarh and the surrounding area were designated as a Union Territory. It is the joint capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana. Punjab borders it on the north and west, and Haryana borders it on the east and south.
4. Lakshadweep

- Malayalam, Jeseri (Dweep Bhasha), and Mahal are the three main languages spoken in Kerala.
- The early history of these islands is largely unknown. It is India's tiniest Union Territory. Amini, Andreotti, Kavaratti, and Agatti were meant to be the first islands to be populated.
- It was previously thought that the islanders were originally Hindus who converted to Islam in the 14th century under the influence of Arab traders. The islands were united as a single territory in 1956 and have been governed directly by the Union Government through an Administrator since then. In 1973, the Laccadives, Minicoy, and Amindivi islands were renamed Lakshadweep. The coral islands of Lakshadweep are made up of 12 atolls, three reefs, and underwater sandbanks. Just 11 of the 27 islands are populated. These are strewn about 280 km to 480 km off the coast of Kerala in the Arabian Sea.
5. Puducherry

- Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, English, and French are the main languages spoken in Puducherry.
- The area of (Puducherry) includes the former French colony of Puducherry, as well as the Indian states of Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam. Puducherry, the territory's capital, was once the French in India's original headquarters. It was ruled by the French for 138 years before joining the Indian Union on November 1, 1954.
- It is bordered on three sides by Tamil Nadu and on the east by the Bay of Bengal. Karaikal is located on the East Coast about 150 kilometers south of Puducherry. Mahe is located on the Malabar coast, which is surrounded by Kerala, on the Western Ghats. It is 70 kilometers from Mahe and can be reached via Calicut Airport. Yanam is about 200 kilometres from Visakhapatnam airport in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district.
6. Delhi

- Delhi is the capital of India.
- The Most Important Languages English, Punjabi, Urdu, and Hindi
- From the time of the epic Mahabharata, Delhi is mentioned frequently. From the Mauryas, Pallavas, and Guptas of Central India to the Turks and Afghans between the 13th and 15th centuries, and finally to the Mughals in the 16th century, it was ruled by a succession of rulers/dynasties. The British established rule in Delhi in the latter half of the 18th century and the early 19th century. After the capital was moved from Kolkata to Delhi in 1911, the city became the epicentre of all activity. In 1956, it was designated as a Union Territory.
- Delhi, located in the northern part of the country, is surrounded on all sides by Haryana, with the exception of the east, where it shares a border with Uttar Pradesh. With the enactment of the National Capital Territory Act, 1991, Delhi gained a Legislative Assembly, making the 69th Constitutional Amendment a watershed moment in the city's history.
7. Ladakh
On October 31, 2019, Ladakh became a Union Territory. Leh and Kargil are the two districts that make up the Union Territory of Ladakh. It is known for its unique culture and remote mountain beauty. Ladakh's UT will be divided into two districts: Leh and Kargil.
8.Jammu&kashmir
The area 222,236 sq. Km. The Urdu, Dogri, Kashmiris, Pahari, Ladakhi, Balti, Gojri and Dari languages are located in the Jammu (Winter), the Srinagar (Summer) areas.
How do other Union Territory systems like Delhi, Puducherry, J and K have?
All countries, including Puducherry and Delhi, as well as Jammu and Kashmir in India and all three union territories, have an elected parliamentary term.
Three U.T. e.g. Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and Puducherry have their elected parliament as granted in a partial statehood through a constitutional amendment out of a total of eight unions in India.
Jammu, Kashmir, Delhi, and Puducherry are in possession of their own legislative and executive boards and operate as states. They have few state subjects and a number of central lies.
