  Partiton of first country


 

  • The partition of India was the division of British India.
  • In1947 which accompanied the creation of two independent dominions, India & Pakistan.
  • The partition involved the division of two provinces, BENGAL &PUNJAB, BASED ON DISTRICT-WISE HINDU OR MUSLIM MAJORITIES.
  • The two self-governing countries of India &pakistan legally come into existence at midnight on 14-15 August 1947.
  • It involved the division of the British Indian army, railways b/w two new dominions.

Violence During Partition



  • By the most estimates 200,000to 1 million Hindus, Muslims & Sikhs died after the 1947 partition.
  • During the partition, people recall seeing axcarts stacked with bodies.
  • The violence lasted for about three months, from august until it ended suddenly in November.
  • It is estimated that around 20,000 people had already died when Nehru gave his famous independence speech.
  • Most of the violence was carried out against Muslims by Hindu angry that India had been divided.
